Step 8: Add a few Highlights
Mix white and small amounts of yellow to make a light yellow. Fig. 65. Next to that, take approximately half
of the yellow mixture and add small amounts of blue to that until you arrive at a med-green. This green should
be quite a bit lighter than the green you used to paint the evergreen trees. Fig. 66
Use the corner of your clean, dry filbert brush to add some highlights to some of the limbs. Try not to cover all
your darker green. Wipe the brush off on paper towel and reload often to keep the paint clean. Fig. 67
Finally, use the knife's edge to cut in a few trunks. Saw the
knife back and forth as if cutting into the canvas. Fig. 64.
Clear your palette by moving unused paints aside.

Place a few highlight color in
the water using the filbert
brush. Not too much! Fig. 68

Note: If you find that the highlight color is not sticking very well, your
paint is probably too thick. Add a few drops of medium to thin the color a
little and generously load the brush.
Pick up a small amount of the lighter yellow paint on short edge of knife
and add few more highlights to some of the trees. Fig. 69. Keep in mind
where your light source is coming from. Fig. 70
